Strawberry Pallet Update April 2017

Some of my strawberry plants did not make it this winter, so I purchased some replacements.  I  cleaned up the pallet area and planted them on Saturday.
Let the growing begin!

Garden Area Enlargement and Fence Construction

This last week I spent several hours expanding my garden area and constructing a new fence.  It was very affordable since the plastic lattice was already at my house...left by someone else a few years ago.  I am so excited for my new area.  I am now in the process of amending my raised beds and planted and building some new raised beds.  I have 2 already constructed from found items in my yard!  I love that I am being frugal and getting more growing space in the garden!!!  Here are a couple of pictures of the fence and new raised beds.

Here are the various things I will be doing in my garden this month!

  1. To prepare the soil for spring planting I will lightly till and add organic matter to improve soil structure.
  2. I will plant, potatoes, peas, onions, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage thru late March.
  3. I will plant asparagus and add more strawberry plants to my strawberry patch.
  4. I will start tomato, peppers and other warm season vegetables inside.
  5. I will start flower seeds inside for transplanting to the garden.
  6. I will sharpen and repair my garden tools.
  7. After the night temperatures stay above 60, I will move some of the houseplants outside for the spring.

Greenhouse Love

I was fortunate enough to buy a greenhouse a week ago.  It is used but it is mine!  I will be putting it back together soon and then the growing will begin.  I will post updates of the progress and the adventures of growing in a green house!  Here is a stock photo I found of the green house...the company is no longer around so hoping it all goes back together correctly!!!

January Garden Chores

Here is a list of the things I did in my garden this January.  Maybe you can do some of them too!

  1. Perused seed catalogs and prepared my order.
  2. Check my stored seeds for decay and for inventory on what I have.
  3. Bought grow lights...I forgot these last year after I got my first little greenhouse for seeds.
  4. Started vegetable transplants under those new grow lights.
  5. Replaced mulch layers as needed.
  6. Curled up with several good books and learned about gardening!
  7. Washed the dust off my indoor plants...helps them to get more sunlight.
  8. Watered my indoor pants with room temperature water...each and every tome!
  9. Rotated my indoor plants to develop well rounded plants.
  10. Repaired and cleaned my garden tools...even got a few new ones.
  11. Kept my bird feeders and water supplies filled for feathered friends!
